Nest Box Installation

NEST BOX INSTALLATION

Many native Australian wildlife species rely on tree hollows for shelter. Nest boxes are artificial shelters for various species of mammals and birds that replace naturally occurring hollows. Nest boxes are used in places where hollows are sparse or when hollow-bearing trees are removed to accommodate development or for safety reasons.

Nest boxes can provide a quick and relatively affordable solution where nesting sites are needed. Nest boxes have successfully been used to reintroduce and/or sustain endangered fauna communities. There are however a range of variables and nest boxes can be unsuccessful unless the project is well designed. Where nest boxes are not the best solution, introduced cavities may provide a viable alternative.

DO YOU REQUIRE NEST BOXES FOR YOUR DEVELOPMENT SITE OR CONSERVATION AREA?

Heartwood Habitat can supply nest boxes made using reclaimed, sustainable, and environmentally-friendly materials. Our skilled arborists will install them within your site using ladders, ropes, or an Elevated Work Platform (EWP).

All of Heartwood Habitats’ arborists are industry trained and accredited.

DO YOU REQUIRE MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE OF YOUR NEST BOXES?

Heartwood Habitat currently undertake monitoring and maintenance of thousands of nest boxes each year Australia-wide for local, state and Commonwealth projects.

“Over the decades, several trees in the park were pruned dangerously, and were tagged for complete removal. However, with Alex’s expertise, we have been able to retain some of the value of these trees by reducing the risk and carving hollows that mimic natural habitat”
